The History of LA Creative Woodworks:

My Dad, Jake Harwell started out with a rustic furniture gallery in a tiny town of Riconada, NM

just 20 mi south of Taos, NM. The name of this company was Southwest Adirondack Furniture.

This is the place where I grew up and I started out my present job as a fence builder.

I started by first learning how to build Willow and Aspen furniture from my father starting at the age of 12.

I worked with him almost every weekend and when i could find time after school.

By the time I was 15, i was building complete chairs, benches, tables etc...

and trying to learn how to do the bent willow.

classic willow chairs

The bent willow is truly an art form and my father was one of the best in the business.

As you will see in the photos below we started doing fencing, gates, pergolas and trellises.

Many years of this rustic, contemporary style has contributed to the modern style and fresh new set of skills we have acquired here in Los Angeles.

The new, modern theme we have been working on is much more detailed and actually fun to build.

When each piece is finely finished the end results are truly  remarkable and its such a joy to see what has been created. That is the rewarding feeling that keeps us inspired and ready for the next project.

I am always ready to learn more and improve the quality on each and every job.

Its a pleasure to leave the job feeling accomplished and also knowing that the client is also very happy with the results.

Among my first projects were tables such as these

I would nail down the willow piece by piece and then my Dad would do the finish work.

Using the natural materials found along the Rio Grande

such as willow, aspen and alder,

as well as recycled barn wood.

My father had a unique ability to use these materials

and make "rustic" into a finer detailed product.

A complete line of interior and exterior rustic furniture was created

We called it Southwest Adirondack Furniture

 (see below):

the Furniture then progressed into outdoor pieces

such as Fencing, Trellises and Arbors.

Since 2005, the business has relocated to Los Angeles, where we bring our

expertise in the Southwest Adirondack style to meet a fresh, modern Californian look.

The result has been truly original and deeply unique works of art

showcased all over Southern California.
