Many of the Los Angeles deck refinishing companies will charge you a fortune for their sub par service and use a low quality sealant, just so that you have to call them back every 8 - 12 months. Our sealants last at least 3-5 years in the sun and if its in the shade it will last even longer. The refinishing process takes a lot of experience and also a bit of trial and error before you achieve the most beautiful and longest lasting finish. You may find that some others will want to use a pressure washer prior to the deck refinishing.

This is something that I find is not needed. Not only is the wood very dry when it is old but most likely the old sealant is long gone, therefore this wood is going to absorb all of that water before you seal it again. When you pressure wash a deck you will have to wait for at least 2 days before you can start the refinishing process. If you do it sooner you will have a hard time with the sanding and also risk sealing up the moisture inside the wood, causing the wood to rot from the inside out. Pressure washing in my opinion is a huge waste of water and also of your time. We explain our process of detailed sanding, grinding and more detail sanding here. Sometimes we may think its too late for the deck and just because its outside it becomes forgotten and neglected. This is the worst way to treat any wood that is outside if you want it to last.
