Finish Work

Included on all and  categories
*Not included on Budget unless negotiated. (More info on Budget).

    • These are a few examples of the methods that we use when building a custom or high-end fence.
    • The fine finishes are where we stand out from the larger fencing companies.
    • Being a smaller, family owned business, we take great pride in our quality and craftsmanship.
    • We take a lot of extra time to go over every square inch of the project and apply any necessary touch ups to guarantee the highest quality, beauty and long lasting protection against the elements.

As you will see, our pricing varies on the amount of finish work you wish to purchase.
1 coat of sealant                                    2 coats                                                  3 coats

    • When you spend a little more in the beginning and go with the 3 coats, this will assure you of a beautiful and longer lasting finish.
    • Approx 5 - 7 yrs, depending on moisture and sun exposure.
    • 2 coats is what the Cabot manufacturers recommend (still very high quality)  3-7 yrs

Whether you are in need of a simple, basic style or a high end product, you will find that our simplest, low budget items are still very nice. Even if our products are unfinished, the craftsmanship and construction is still just as durable as the high end products. We make sure that the framework and structure is still nice to look at and we always take our time to guarantee this. (Even on the unfinished items)

    • When calling around to other fence companies, you may want to mention a few of these details.
You will find that our pricing is super competitive for the amount of work that we do. They are able to bid projects at a lower price because they can get better deals on materials etc. however they knock stuff out so quickly that they miss a lot of the little details that you will catch at a later date.
  • When you deal with these larger operations, most of the time the guy with all of the knowledge is not even onsite. It can be any crew that they have picked up that can set fence posts, but for the most part none of them know that much about sanding or high quality finishes. They will also want to get the job done as quickly as possible. From my own experience I always cause problems when I rush through anything. We do not do our fence building this way anymore.
  • The way that we build takes longer because high quality takes time. It is worth the extra day or 2 that we are on the job to make sure it is done right the first time. Quality also means durability and long lasting beauty.

      • When you commit to a purchase with us, our fence or gate installation goes also goes very quickly.
      • We start the project on other jobsites by prepping all of the materials with sanding and pre-staining. If it's a gate, we show up with it already built and we just have to hang and install it.
      • Driveway gates are a little different, but if you require an iron frame, we have a crew show up to install the metal in a couple of hours and we come back soon after for the wood installation. (Both processes of the iron framing and wood installation are only a few hours of being onsite)

  • Redwood and Cedar are both ready made for the outdoors, even without any sealants. redwood and cedar can last for many years in their natural unfinished state.
  • They both contain special oils and resins within the wood that is resistant to insects and is highly recommended for fence building.
  • After several years they will both age to a silver-ish gray.
  • If this weathered, and gray look is what you have in your yard....please see our REFINISHING PAGE.
  • We refinish furniture, fences, gates, pergolas, arbors and we always make them look just as nice or even more beautiful than the day they were originally purchased.

I promise that you will not even recognize your yard when we are through with the refinishing. (see more)

The material that is used to build most of the common redwood fences around town.
(see photo below)
It is the standard, green (not dry), dog ear fence boards.

Beginning of the project
Rough, redwood board
(standard 1 x 6 x 6)

Steps: prior to fence instalaltion:
  1. First we run the rough boards through a wood planer (click for video)
  2. Then we sand all 4 sides of each board, including the edges and corners
  3. This makes sure that we remove any splinters, saw blade marks etc.

(L) non-planed boards, (M) Planed and sanded (R) Planed, sanded and stained
  1. (Left) ----Non-Planed, non-sanded boards (these are what you mostly see)
  2. (Middle)--- Planed and sanded
  3. (Right) ---Planed, sanded and stained

  • When you do apply a sealant on all sides, prior to installation, (another detail that others skip) you have just added many years to the life of the wood.
  • Proper application of the stains and sealants is very important.
  • This not only protects the wood from moisture but it also keeps away the insects.
  • You may notice around town that even the stained fences are still exposed wood in between all of the boards. We do not skip this very important step.

4. Staining the edges of all wooden fence boards
Pre-staining very important for long lasting stain

  • This detail enhances the look of the finish
Los Angeles

  • It also adds to the longevity of the wood
